Arthritis and Supplements Several people have asked me what supplements they can take for pain and inflammation. Today’s article will focus on arthritis pain and how it can be helped. Next week I will address inflammation. GLUCOSAMINE SULFATE spurs cells to produce more collagen (the basic protein of connective tissue) and proteoglycans as it normalizes cartilage metabolism, which helps to keep the cartilage in the joint from breaking down. Because glucosamine "jump-starts" the production of key elements of the cartilage matrix and then protects them, it actually helps the body to repair damaged or eroded cartilage. MAGNESIUM occurs in both plant and animal tissue. It is essential as an enzyme activator, and is involved in the formation and maintenance of body protein. The magnesium compounds help the glucosamine sulfate to do its job more efficiently. VITAMIN C is needed for normal body cell functioning. It also contributes to the formation of healthy collagen, bones, teeth, cartilage, skin and capillary walls. Vitamin C acts as a catalyst for the glucosamine sulfate activity. By promoting the formation of strong connective tissue, it helps to heal wounds and burns. WILD YAM contains a multitude of hormone-like compounds that have been used to effectively treat a variety of medical problems. The British Herbal Pharmacopoeia recognizes wild yam root as a spasmolytic, mild diaphoretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, and it is listed for use in the treatment of the following: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, muscular rheumatism, and cramps. CHONDROITIN SULFATES act like "water magnets" within joint cartilage (whereas glucosamine helps to form the proteoglycans that sit within the spaces in the cartilage ‘netting’ to act like "water holders." Chondroitin helps attract fluid into the cartilage, which acts both as a spongy shock absorber for the bones, and also as a mechanism to sweep body nutrients into the cartilage for nourishment and lubrication. Chondroitin slows the destructive action of certain enzymes, which naturally degenerate the cartilage, stimulates the production of cartilage matrix molecules and increases the action of the glucosamines. METHYLSULFONYLMETHANE (MSM) is a naturally occurring organic sulfur found in the tissues of all plants and animals. Sulfur is vital to the creation and regeneration of the body’s tissues. It must be present for collagen to be produced and is a major component in the formation of cartilage and connective tissues. These supplements combined with regular chiropractic care, exercise and a balanced diet can help one to feel better and stay active. Sources for these supplements include health food stores, grocery stores and drug stores. Watch for next week’s article, which will focus on herbs and supplements that are used to combat inflammation. |

We believe in the rapture, we believe there is a hell eternal, we believe to be absent from the body is to be present with YAHUSHUA, also named in Greek JESUS CHRIST. Seventh-Day Adventists believe the lie of soul sleep. Remember the thief hanging on the cross who, because he believed on Him, was told by YAHUSHUA, "Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43, KJV) We know that Prophecy did not cease with Ellen G. White and Seventh-Day Adventists believe in Ellen G. White as the only prophet for today, though she is dead and what she prophesied did not come to pass. We believe in Keeping the true Sabbath, for it is the 4th commandment, but we don't believe it takes the place of the saving blood of YAHUSHUA (JESUS CHRIST). |
